The method was originally funded by Executive Discovery, a company owned by Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen. In 2004, LEGO acquired the rights to the method. In 2010, the core idea of LSP was released under a Creative Commons licence and the Association of Master Trainers in the LEGO SERIOUS PLAY Method was established to ensure the quality of the method.
